BIOGRAPHY: A storm was blowing in from the Gulf, threatening a no-name bar somewhere along a dirt road in Mississippi. It was here almost 40 years ago that something strange and unusual happened. The story goes that a woman so shockingly beautiful walked into the bar, causing the bartender to stutter and shake as he poured her a shot. The redneck locals sat in awe, parting in silence as she made her way to the old Wurlitzer jukebox that had been dark and silent for years. She put in a coin, they say, and at the same moment there was a flash of lightning that seemed to come through the door. The jukebox lit up and Al Green’s “Simply Beautiful” came pouring out. She didn’t seem surprised, not even when a two foot robot named Smokey blew right out of the jukebox’s flashing lights and stood beside her. She took his hand, and they left. No one dared to follow them as the jukebox fell silent again. And that was it—forty years passed by like it never even happened. Like they fell off the earth.
Until now…
Smokey Robotic is not a band. They are a crew of NYC and Vancouver-based musicians who are breaking new ground from a musical and artistic standpoint.
They have created a genre of music they call “Superfuture,” which can be best described as, but not limited to, a blend of hip-hop, soul, pop and electronic.
